Young Rembrandts Franchise
Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at 09:58AM Drawing programs for preschool and elementary students
Young Rembrandts is more than the original, most recognized, and most respected art enrichment program enjoyed by thousands of children. It is an art education methodology focused on fostering children's overall brain development. By participating in each week's new and engaging lessons, Young Rembrandts students develop drawing skills and master artistic concepts; but they also experience enhanced fine motor skills, greater eye and hand coordination, improved focus and concentration, and more highly developed visual, spatial, and perspective skills.
The first Young Rembrandts classes started in the spring of 1988 as a collection of elementary age children around Bette Fetter's kitchen table. Bette funneled her art degree from Northern Illinois University, her proficiency in drawing, watercolor, photography, textiles, weaving, graphic arts, and design, with her background in child development and knowledge of how children learn. The result was distilled into a system for teaching children how to draw.
As the mother of four young children, Bette had immersed herself in everything Montessori, from setting up a Montessori home environment for her children, to conducting parent workshops. For Bette, the Montessori method was invaluable in developing art curriculum and methodology for preschoolers. Soon Bette was teaching drawing to 3, 4, and 5 year-olds at local Montessori Schools. The combination of her art and education backgrounds gave her an opportunity to blend valuable concepts, "art talk", and subject matter into age appropriate curriculum.
